Video - Week 4

I had a really hard time coming up with an idea for the mashup. I first thought that the theme of favorite people, places, or things was easy, but then when I viewed some mash-ups and the assignment, I had a hard time coming up with just 3 clips that I could mash together. I ended up going with a montage of many short video clips, in a sort of promotional video style.. sort of.

  1. Nice job. You had so many clips I imagine you made the assignment harder than it needed to be! What is the difference between montage and mash-up? That is my question for the day.

  2. OK. This was way cool to watch. I feel I learned something about LA from watching this. To respond to Letty's question, mashup videos require the items to have no connection with each other. Having no connection while being about your "favorite place, thing, etc" is kind of misleading in this assignment because you literally have to pick two of your favorite things that have no reason to ever be put together, throw them together, and hope that it is magic. However, I think that there is evidence that juxtaposition is not super important. In the show "Mash-up" on Comedy Central they show lots of mash ups of cartoons with related stand up routines. The line of montage vs mashup has seriously eroded to where I would say a lot of the time mashups are really more montage these days. I think this video meets the technical requirements for the assignment while giving a much better story than a more aesthetically correct mash up like Cypress Hill meets Guns and Roses. I definitely like what you have done here April.

  3. April, I loved your video. It was a great guide to Louisiana! I thought the clips at the beginning were great in telling a story of how the world sees Louisiana and then going into what it really is like. The only think that I would suggest is smoother transitions between the clips, but other than that it was great!

  5. Very interesting, good job with the transitions and the text really helped in some parts. It was a good effort in telling us about Louisiana, and made me more interested in visiting.
